Import Format Guide

Hello there!

So a lot of people have asked for this for awhile now, and I honestly can't blame them. Our Import menu isn't very specific when it comes to details. So I'm making this guide to help everyone out, and make it easier for them to get their lists imported to the site.

I was going to wait until our new Import/Export system was finished though, but it seems to be taking a bit longer then expected. So I'll go ahead and write it out now.

Importing .csv files:

1. Format: Qty,"Card Name",Set Name,isFoil,Condition

Example:
1,"Dark Confidant",Ravnica (Foil),true,NM-M
1,"Cryptic Command",Lorwyn,false,NM-M
1,"Grim Tutor",Starter 1999,false,NM-M
1,"Sorin Markov",M12,false,NM-M
1,"Mountain",M10,false,NM-M
1,"Narset Transcendent",Dragons of Tarkir (Foil),true,NM-M
1,"Richard Garfield, Ph.D.",Unhinged (Foil),true,NM-M
1,"Crucible of Worlds",Fifth Dawn (Foil),true,NM-M
1,"Sliver Overlord",Scourge,false,NM-M
1,"Stifle",Scourge (Foil),true,NM-M
1,"Seedborn Muse",Legions,false,NM-M
1,"Entomb",Premium Deck Series Graveborn,false,NM-M

2. Things to watch for:

There are numerous problems that can occur when importing a file, and I'll try to list those below. I'll also list some other things that are worth knowing when trying to Import.

  • The biggest problem that most people encounter when trying to Import a .csv file, is with Card Names. The main cause of this, is a lack of quotation marks around the Card Names. It's best that ALL cards in your file have quotation marks around them, but at the very least, any card that has a comma in it's name will require quotes around it in order to Import properly.
  • The "isFoil" column only accepts a "true" or "false" statement. "True" being used when the card is a foil, and "False" when the card is not a foil.
  • The "Condition" column is entirely optional. The reason being, that our site's prices are all based off of NM-M cards. We currently don't support different grades of cards, but we do plan on doing so one of these days.

3. Example File:

I've uploaded an example .csv file just in case anyone needs it, so they can get a better example of what a proper Import file should look like. It contains one card from each set that we have listed on our site at the time that this guide was written.

There are numerous problems that can occur when importing a file, and I'll try to list those below. I'll also list some other things that are worth knowing when trying to Import.

  • Luckily, importing a tab-separated .txt file usually leads to less errors then a .csv file.
  • Take note though, that if each entry on a line isn't separated by using the "Tab" key, then it can and will lead to problems. Simply adding a few spaces in-between entries won't work.
  • The "isFoil" column only accepts a "true" or "false" statement. "True" being used when the card is a foil, and "False" when the card is not a foil.

    Importing .xlsx files:

    1. Format: Qty  | Card Name  |  Set Name  |  Condition

    Example:

    2. Things to watch for:

There are numerous problems that can occur when importing a file, and I'll try to list those below. I'll also list some other things that are worth knowing when trying to Import.

    • Many times when importing another type of file into Microsoft Office, it will strip out all of the formatting and/or special characters from the previous file. Aka, sometimes it will remove all comma's from the Card Name column, and other special characters as well sometimes. So if you are having problems with certain cards being found, then check to see if they are missing the proper punctuation.
    • Maybe you've noticed already, that the .xlsx example entries above don't have the same "isFoil" column as the other 2 Import types do. That's because it relies solely off of the set's name to determine if it's a Foil card or not.
    • In relation to the fact above, having an "isFoil" column in your .xlsx file can actually cause you problems when importing. The reason being, it reads "True" as meaning "a quantity of one" and it reads "False" as meaning "a quantity of zero", which in turn overwrites the quantity of that card specified in your file.
    • The "Condition" column is entirely optional. The reason being, that our site's prices are all based off of NM-M cards. We currently don't support different grades of cards, but we do plan on doing so one of these days.

    Still having problems?

If you are still having problems with cards showing as "Not Found", then the chances are that the problem is with the name of the set. Different sites may use slightly different names for each set, and sometimes this can cause problems when importing. But luckily for you, I've made up a Google Sheet that lists what each of the two other most popular sites call the sets on their site.

You can check the list at the link below, and use it to compare to what you have it listed as, and see if you need to make any corrections so that your file will Import properly.

I hope that this article has helped you out, but if you still have any questions about Importing, then please don't hesitate to send me a ticket, and I'll do my best to help you out!
